Does God have an opinion about how children should be educated? The answer given by Israel Wayne is a resounding "Yes!". God wants children to be well educated, yes, but even more than that, He wants children to be discipled. The relationship between parent and child is key.
Many Christians today believe God doesn't care how children are schooled. This book uses Scripture to show otherwise. Truths about God, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the importance of the Bible have been stripped from curricula. It is high time we return these to their rightful place. The anti-God / anti-Truth misinformation campaign being pushed in the public schools works directly against the faith. It is poisoning the minds of children, placing terrible stress on our families, and undermining societal structures.
Anyone thinking about pulling their children out of the public school system should consider what this book says about the importance of a child's education.
You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down,
and when you rise.
Deuteronomy 11:19
How did we get here?
From Education: Does God have an opinion?
Government schools have walked the path of "Progressive Education," "Outcome-Based Education," "Goals 2000," "School-to-Work," "No Child Left Behind," and "Common Core." Everyone involved in government schooling is concerned with the future of learning in our country -- or at least that's what they claim. They have a certain direction they would like to take our children academically and spiritually.
Families must develop their own educational goals, not measured on a humanistic scale of state or federally standardized comparisons, but by the plumb line of God's standard. How should we approach learning? What is a biblical view of education?
It is really impossible to understand the contemporary educational climate without understanding how thinking on education has morphed over time and what has shaped the way various subjects are being taught and studied.
Be Still...
Keep the Word Central in Education
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
- Proverbs 1:7
If you share our concern over what has been taking place in our classrooms, please consider joining with us as we fight for families, for children, for education, for truth, and for common sense.
We continue to ask people whether they understand what is now taking place within our school systems. We continue to provide information and resources to help people, especially parents, gain some idea of what's being taught to kids (and why). And yes, we continue to ask people to get involved and help with the lifting.
We fight against children being taught to hate their country, to judge people based on the color of their skin, and to ignore the basic truths of biology. We fight against the sexualization in school of little ones and the destruction of the innocence of youth. Perhaps most importantly, we fight to ensure that the proper teaching of math, reading and writing remain at the forefront of a child's education.
The idea that it is parents who are responsible for raising, educating, and seeing to the well being of their kids, that is sacrosanct.
Join with us in preserving the attributes and ideals of this great nation.
Feel free to forward this newsletter to friends and family. Actually anyone who acknowledges the fundamental right of parents to raise, educate, and protect their children are invited to join with us. We are gathering a group of joyful warriors, folks who understands why (and for whom) we fight.
Sun May 28th from 3pm to 4:30pm: Monthly Madison Meetup, a time to meet together and discuss our nation's founding documents, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. The Biblical Mandate
Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children ... and that they may teach their children so (Deut. 4:9-10).
You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise (Deut. 11:18-19).
Psalm 78 embodies the heart of homeschooling. There are many other verses that demonstrate the Lord's desire for parents to teach and train their own children (see Gen. 18:19; Exod. 10:2, 12:26-27, 13:8, 14; Prov. 3:1).
Charles Hodge (1797-1878), a professor at Princeton Theological Seminary, wrote:
This whole process of education is to be religious, and not only religious, but Christian. ... And as Christianity is the only true religion, and God, in Christ the only true God, the only possible means of profitable education is the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
I like how Ken Ham puts it:
It's not just an issue of homeschooling: it is an issue of true biblical home education. ... (Y)ou can no longer depend on the Sunday school and youth ministries in your church to educate your kids in the things of God. In all honesty, this was never their reponsitility in the first place. This is your job; this is your responsibility; you need to step up to the plate and take charge.
A Response to God, Not a Reaction to Public School
When we stray from the biblical pattern of parents teaching their children, we are faced with the natural consequeces of ignoring God's design. Thechaos and dissolution we see in government schools is a result of forsaking God's patterns. We may "clean up" the classroom and reinstate morality in the schools, but it still falls short of God's perfect order. Institutional learning is never encouraged by God in Scripture.
Traditional classroom teaching is a man-made, artificial substitute for parenting. It can never be a replacement for fulfilling our God-given responsibility to teach our own children. It is critical that we come to a place of biblical conviction concerning God's perfect will.
...
Obedience to God is what motivates me to teach my own children at home. It doesn't make any difference to me what the public school is doing (whether good or bad), because they are not the plumb line. God's Word is the standard. When I see the moral demise of government education, I'm reminded that, "In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge" (Prov. 14:26).
While the U.S. Constitution does not expressly discuss parental rights, the right to protect, raise, and educate your own children has been described as the oldest of our fundamental liberties.
The history and culture of Western civilization embraces a strong tradition of parental rights, and the Supreme Court of these United States has described parental rights as being "established beyond debate as an enduring American tradition." See Wisconsin v. Yoder, 406 US 205, 232 (1972).
Parents need to begin to recognize the rights they hold as parents, and make their voices heard. Only then can we hope to turn things around.
